Why
- Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) is one of the animals to keep away from a breeding shrimp colony — either it hunts them, or it out-competes and harasses them until the colony stops replacing itself. A Yellow Neocaridina Shrimp colony will not hold its numbers.
- Bettas are notorious for hunting shrimp and Yellow Neocaridina Shrimp is small enough to be worth chasing. Some individuals ignore them completely — provide heavy cover, and be ready to move one or the other.
- Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) will eat Yellow Neocaridina Shrimp shrimplets. The colony still grows if there is moss or another dense hiding place for the babies.
Sweet spot: both do well at 76–78°F and pH 6.5–7.5 — aim there.
