Why
- Blue Phantom Pleco is not on the verified shrimp-safe list, so we will not recommend it over a breeding Painted Fire Red Shrimp colony. It may well be fine — it simply has not been confirmed by a source, and an unverified guess is not worth the colony.
- Almost no shared temperature: Blue Phantom Pleco wants 75–82°F and Painted Fire Red Shrimp wants 65–75°F, so only 75°F suits both — too fine a margin to actually hold.
- Blue Phantom Pleco is much larger than Painted Fire Red Shrimp but is not a shrimp hunter — it may take a shrimplet or clean up a moult. Adults are safe with cover.
- Blue Phantom Pleco will eat Painted Fire Red Shrimp shrimplets. The colony still grows if there is moss or another dense hiding place for the babies.
- Only a narrow water hardness overlap — keep both around 6–7 dGH.
Sweet spot: both do well at 75–75°F and pH 6.5–7.6 — aim there.
