- No overlapping pH: Oolong Shrimp wants 5.8–6.8 but Red Devil Vampire Crab wants 7.5–8.
- No overlapping water hardness: Oolong Shrimp wants 0–4 dGH but Red Devil Vampire Crab wants 8–15 dGH.
- Red Devil Vampire Crab hunts shrimp, though Oolong Shrimp is nearly its own size — losses should be rare with cover.
- Red Devil Vampire Crab will eat Oolong Shrimp shrimplets. The colony still grows if there is moss or another dense hiding place for the babies.
