- No overlapping water hardness: Shadow Panda Shrimp wants 0–4 dGH but Purple Vampire Crab wants 8–15 dGH.
- Purple Vampire Crab hunts shrimp, though Shadow Panda Shrimp is nearly its own size — losses should be rare with cover.
- Purple Vampire Crab will eat Shadow Panda Shrimp shrimplets. The colony still grows if there is moss or another dense hiding place for the babies.
