- No overlapping water hardness: Swordtail wants 12–30 dGH but Zebra Pleco wants 2–6 dGH.
- Swordtail is semi-aggressive — give the peaceful Zebra Pleco plenty of space, cover and broken sight lines.
Sweet spot: both do well at 79–82°F and pH 7–7.5 — aim there.
