Why
- Purple Vampire Crab is not on the verified shrimp-safe list, so we will not recommend it over a breeding Tangerine Tiger Shrimp colony. It may well be fine — it simply has not been confirmed by a source, and an unverified guess is not worth the colony.
- Purple Vampire Crab hunts shrimp. Tangerine Tiger Shrimp is large enough to be awkward prey, but not safe.
- No overlapping pH: Tangerine Tiger Shrimp wants 5.8–6.8 but Purple Vampire Crab wants 7.5–8.
- No overlapping water hardness: Tangerine Tiger Shrimp wants 3–6 dGH but Purple Vampire Crab wants 8–15 dGH.
- Purple Vampire Crab will eat Tangerine Tiger Shrimp shrimplets. The colony still grows if there is moss or another dense hiding place for the babies.
- Only a narrow temperature overlap — keep both around 75–76°F.
