Can Tiger Barb live with Vampire Shrimp?
Caution — with care
Why
- Tiger Barb is a fin-nipper and will shred the long/flowing fins of Vampire Shrimp.
- Tiger Barb eats dwarf shrimp, but Vampire Shrimp grows to 6" — big enough to be safe with dense cover.
Sweet spot: both do well at 75–82°F and pH 6.5–7.5 — aim there.
Side-by-side
| Tiger Barb | Vampire Shrimp | |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | 74–82°F | 75–84°F |
| pH | 6–8 | 6.5–7.5 |
| Hardness (GH) | 4–15 dGH | 6–15 dGH |
| Adult size | 2.75" | 6" |
| Temperament | Semi-aggressive | Peaceful |
| Min tank | 20 gal | 30 gal |
Together, plan on at least 30 gallons.
How to make it work
- Keep a large, established shrimp colony in a heavily planted tank with moss and cover so enough survive to breed.
- Keep the nipper in a bigger group (8+) to spread out the nipping, and avoid long-finned tankmates.
